As of my last knowledge update in September 2021, here's detailed information about the number of attempts allowed for the UPSC Civil Services Exam: General Category Candidates: General category candidates were allowed a maximum of six attempts until they reached the upper age limit. The upper age limit was usually 32 years for the General category. OBC Category Candidates: Candidates belonging to the Other Backward Classes (OBC) were allowed a maximum of nine attempts until they reached the upper age limit. The upper age limit was generally 35 years for OBC candidates. SC/ST Category Candidates: There was no specific limit on the number of attempts for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Trib
