How many attempts are allowed for UPSC civil services exam

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the Civil Services Examination (CSE) in India, which includes various prestigious services like the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and Indian Foreign Service (IFS), among others. As of my last knowledge update in September 2021, here's detailed information about the number of attempts allowed for the UPSC Civil Services Exam:

General Category Candidates: General category candidates were allowed a maximum of six attempts until they reached the upper age limit. The upper age limit was usually 32 years for the General category.

OBC Category Candidates: Candidates belonging to the Other Backward Classes (OBC) were allowed a maximum of nine attempts until they reached the upper age limit. The upper age limit was generally 35 years for OBC candidates.

SC/ST Category Candidates: There was no specific limit on the number of attempts for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST). They could appear for the exam until they reached the upper age limit, which was typically 37 years.

Physically Handicapped Candidates (General): General category candidates with physical disabilities were allowed a maximum of nine attempts until they reached the upper age limit, which was generally 42 years.

Physically Handicapped Candidates (OBC): OBC candidates with physical disabilities were allowed a maximum of nine attempts until they reached the upper age limit, which was typically 45 years.

Physically Handicapped Candidates (SC/ST): SC/ST category candidates with physical disabilities had no specific limit on the number of attempts, and they could appear for the exam until they reached the upper age limit, which was generally 47 years.

Please note that these rules and age limits are subject to change, and it's essential to verify the latest eligibility criteria and attempt limits from the official UPSC website or notifications issued by the UPSC.

Since my last update was in September 2021, I recommend checking the UPSC's official website or the latest notifications for the most up-to-date information regarding the UPSC Civil Services Examination eligibility criteria and attempt limits. Additionally, consider seeking guidance from experts or mentors to navigate the complex application process and prepare effectively for the exam.
